What Should Customers Do Today?

First, the Fusion Applications, slated for rollout December 2008, will be developed utilizing the Fusion Middleware components and deployed in a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA).  Translated, the SOA deploys loosely coupled services so that can be easily plugged into existing web applications and made to be flexible to handle changes within the business process environment.  The SOA framework concept will allow for greater capability on the part of the organization to mold web applications consistent with business processes and also integrate disparate systems, thus salvaging existing investments within current applications.  Both security and compliance are critical factors to consider as organizations review their technology options.  The question would be, what does my organization do today? We recommend the following steps as a checklist:

  • Upgrade your current set of core applications to the both the latest application and tech stack version.  The reason behind this is to ensure that as the upgrades are completed, components of the fusion middleware will become available to start to deploy in small pilot projects.
  • Identify critical business requirements not being met today with your core set of applications.  These could be related to new compliance requirements, trying to automate manual processes, or reporting and analytics that are required from multiple systems that have no core reporting dashboard.
  • Pick a project that would be small in scope and would contain some of the concepts of a SOA architecture deployment.  This will be a gradual process into this new environment allowing for quick wins to occur.

Oracle Technology Roadmap

The Oracle Technology Roadmap has incorporated a Service Oriented Architecture to allow for disparate applications to integrate seamlessly, which will allow end to end solutions regardless of the applications being deployed.  At the core of this strategy is the utilization of the SOA Suite set of standardized tools to facilitate integration and provide a secure governance framework for those applications to exist.  Oracle has moved from an ERP vendor to an end to end process solution provider.  EIS can assist organizations in protecting and enhancing their technology investments utilizing the Oracle Technology Roadmap.
